Mr. Furlong has 2,000 acres of tillage land across 25 farms in Wexford and is one of the largest cereal farmers in Ireland. He is also Managing Director of Cooney Furlong Grain Ltd. in Caim and Target Fertilisers, a company which he says has grown to take a 20 per cent share of the Irish fertilizer market from a standing start in 2000.

He invested heavily in 22,000 acres of tillage land in Argentina as part of global farming company, Agro Terra, of which he is Director. He is numbered in the “top 10 per cent of farmers in Ireland” who are in receipt of 37 per cent of all single farm payment funds.
